Moveable Walls

For Spaces That Grow Alongside Your Business.

In today’s fast-paced business environment, having a workspace that adapts to your evolving needs is crucial. Moveable walls, also known as demountable or architectural walls, provide the flexibility to reconfigure your office layout quickly and efficiently, ensuring your space grows alongside your business.

What are Moveable Walls?

Moveable walls are architectural wall systems designed for quick installation and reconfiguration. Unlike traditional drywall, these modular walls can be disassembled, relocated, and reassembled in a matter of hours with minimal disruption, offering a sustainable and cost-effective solution for dynamic work environments.

How Do Moveable Walls Work?

Unlike fixed drywall, moveable walls are prefabricated in a factory and delivered to your workspace as ready-to-assemble components, including framing, panels, and accessories. Certified office furniture installers then assemble them on-site with minimal disruption to your operations.

They are completely reconfigurable, equipped to support power and data wiring, and provide floor-to-ceiling coverage that enhances both visual and auditory privacy.

Once installed, moveable walls deliver the same benefits as permanent drywall construction—such as stability, privacy, and functionality—but with unmatched flexibility. When it's time to reconfigure your space, these walls can be quickly disassembled, moved, and reassembled within hours, creating no mess or gypsum dust. This makes them a sustainable and cost-effective choice for businesses expecting growth or change.

Why Should You Consider Using Moveable Walls?

  • Save Time and Money

Movable walls significantly cut the time and cost of reconfiguring office layouts. Unlike traditional drywall, which involves demolition and rebuilding over weeks or months, movable walls can be disassembled, relocated, and reassembled by licensed installers in just hours or a few days, even for larger projects.

  • Maximize Space Efficiency

Adapting your workspace to meet changing needs becomes effortless with movable walls. Whether adding private offices or expanding meeting rooms, reconfigurations are quick and often use your existing components.

  • Eco-Friendly Solution

Movable walls eliminate the waste associated with drywall demolition, making them a sustainable choice. By preventing materials from ending up in landfills, they help reduce your environmental impact while supporting your sustainability goals.

  • Built for Growth and Flexibility

As your business evolves, your workspace can, too. Movable walls provide the flexibility to scale your office layout quickly and cost-effectively.

Are There Any Downsides to Using Moveable Walls?

There really is only one major downside to using modular walls… their price.  Moveable walls do have a larger sticker price than putting up a drywall partition.

Drywall will usually cost in the range of $5 to $6 per square foot, or $400+ for nine feet of wall (a typical length for one side of a private office).  However, this price doesn’t account for painting, doors, electrical or data cabling, or any other work you might need to have done before your space is ready to go.  Alternatively, a nine-foot length of demountable walls could cost $4500 but this price includes installation, finishing, cabling and doors.

Clearly moveable walls do cost more upfront and whether or additional flexibility and reduced cost of changes offered by moveable walls justify that premium is a question that only you can answer for your business.

Endless Customization Options

When designing your moveable wall system, the customization possibilities are virtually limitless. Choose from:

  • Panel Materials: Metal, laminate, writeable whiteboard, upholstered wall coverings, wood, or clear and patterned glass. Combine finishes for a unique look—for instance, glass panels on the top third and laminate or whiteboard on the bottom two-thirds.

  • Hardware Choices: Traditional hinged doors, sliding doors, and an array of pulls, knobs, and handles in various finishes.

With thousands of combinations available, you can create the perfect aesthetic and functionality to suit your workspace.

Budgeting for Your Moveable Wall System

The cost of moveable walls can vary significantly based on your choices. However, our experience suggests budgeting $500 to $600 per linear foot for most systems. Key factors influencing cost include:

  • Materials: Are the panels solid, subdivided, or a mix of finishes?
  • Hardware: The style and material of door handles, pulls, and other hardware.
  • Ceiling Height: Taller walls require more materials, increasing cost.
  • Installation Complexity: Factors like lack of elevators or distant unloading areas can impact labor costs.

While the initial investment may be higher than traditional drywall, the long-term savings and flexibility often make moveable walls the more cost-effective choice over time.

When Are Moveable Walls the Right Call?

Ideal Scenarios for Moveable Walls

Moveable walls are an excellent choice when:

  • You plan to reconfigure or relocate your office within the next 10 to 15 years.

  • You want to incorporate modern design elements like sliding doors or floor-to-ceiling glass.

  • You prioritize long-term ROI and sustainability, minimizing waste and maximizing reuse.

For businesses planning future renovations, moveable walls eliminate the cost and waste of traditional drywall. Additionally, features like sliding doors and glass panels often make moveable walls more competitive with traditional alternatives, both in cost and functionality. Companies focused on environmental responsibility and long-term value will benefit from the zero-waste reconfigurability of moveable walls.

When Are Moveable Walls the Wrong Choice?

Scenarios Where Moveable Walls May Not Fit

While moveable walls offer significant benefits, they’re not ideal for every situation. Consider alternatives if:

  • The space is industrial and exposed to moisture or the elements.

  • Your office layout is fixed and unlikely to change over time.

  • You’re focused purely on lowest upfront cost, as traditional drywall typically has a lower initial price.

Moveable walls provide the most value when flexibility and long-term savings are priorities. If your needs align with static layouts or extreme environmental conditions, purpose-built alternatives may be a better fit.
